L-R, Ian Whan, Rob Mc Creath, Iris Bryce, Shane Meara and Iain Bucknell, all farm on Felton’s fertile farmland west of Toowoomba. For several years leading to 2012, they have fought against a proposed major coal mine in the area, on the grounds, the land is valuable farming land. In 2012 the then LNP government said it would never allow coal mining in the area. Now it turns out the ALP government has renewed two major coal exploration licences in the area, which runs counter to its claimed “green” credentials. Mc Creath said he and the community would again fight any moves for mining in the area.
